microcosmos.co.uk - The SGI Community Resource
The SGI Community ResourceFriday, 21 November 2008 08:24 am
microcosmos.co.uk is dedicated to the fantastic MIPS processor based computers made by California based company SGI, or Silicon Graphics, as they were previously called. This site aims to support the growing hobbyist community and introduce new people the SGI and IRIX experience. SGIs workstations run IRIX, so if you've used Linux you'll be on familiar territory. Whether you own an Indigo, Indigo2, O2, Octane or something else, I hope you'll find something useful here. If you have any material on SGI hardware or IRIX you'd like to see here, please submit it and I'll add it to the site!

Back From The Dead!
By: James  on Saturday, May 20 @ 13:34:47 UTC
Microcosmos Site Info

After disappearing from the 'net for a while, Microcosmos is back!

Unfortunately, somebody has registered the domain, so it's temporarily housed at http://microcosmos.jamesholden.net/

Last weekend when I visited Ian Mapleson, he mentioned that people had asked him about it, so I thought I’d have a look at getting it up and running again, and here we are!

By: James  on Tuesday, June 03 @ 17:03:52 UTC
Hacks I've given my Indigo2 IMPACT the pax.mate treatment! Pax.mate is sound-absorbing foam to stick on the inside of your computer case, but it was quite a challenge fitting it to an Indigo2! Read the full story in the Hardware Mods section.

By: James  on Wednesday, April 23 @ 14:21:19 UTC
Software Good news for those wanting to mangle documents and spreadsheets on their IRIX box: OpenOffice.org binaries are available for download over at nekochan.net. OpenOffice.org was previously only available on IRIX to those who were insane enough to compile it for themselves.
